Week 12 Waiver Stargazing

In Week 11 we saw a few of our waiver selections have big performances. Cam Newton had an impressive fantasy performance (26.16 FP) on his return as the starter for the Carolina Panthers and our Waiver Target of The Week Elijah Moore had a huge day where he brought in 8 receptions for 141 yards and a TD! Now admittedly, the waiver wire isn't as exciting this week, but @K_H_Ray, @ZTwiceFF & @MattFFDynasty are back to give you their selections as we head into Week 12.

Waiver Target

Waiver Target of The Week

Cam Newton | QB | CAR (47.2% Rostership - 5% FAAB Recommendation) (@ZTwiceFF)

As Matt so eloquently wrote last week quoting Cam, "I'M BAAAAACK"! He truly is back. In his first start back with the Panthers he threw for 2 TD's and more importantly ran for another one. This is following up his debut in which he had two TD's on 16% of the snaps. He is obviously not playing at his MVP level, but for fantasy purposes that does not matter. He is a viable starter for the rest fo the season due to his high rushing floor and upside if he adds some decent passing work. Go grab Cam if you haven't already (even though you should have him if you listened to Matt last week).

Ty Johnson | RB | NYJ (5.3% Rostership - 5% FAAB Recommendation) (@MattFFDynasty)

Yesterday we found out fellow NYJ RB Michael Carter is expected to miss 2/3 weeks after leaving NYJ's Week 11 game early on with what has now been confirmed as a high ankle sprain. So with Carter missing time, Johnson is someone you want to grab off your waiver wire. Admittedly he trailed Tevin Coleman in touches after Carter's injury last week, but it's been Johnson who has been utilized as the pass-catching 3rd down back up until that point. I expect that to resume heading into Week 12 and both backs to be used in a committee moving forward. But I believe Johnson can be used as a flex play this week vs a poor Houston defense.

Austin Hooper | TE | CLE (2.9% Rostership - 4% FAAB Recommendation) (@K_H_RAY)

Hooper has 4 receptions in each of the last two games for the Browns and has been an active member in the Browns minimalist passing attack. But he's seeing enough targets to be considered in good matchups. Oh what do ya know, Cleveland plays Baltimore twice in the next three weeks. Hooper is a compelling streamer.

Matt Breida | RB | BUF (0.4% Rostership - 3% FAAB Recommendation) (@MattFFDynasty)

After his impressive Week 10 2 TD performance, BUF gave Breida a larger role Week 11 where his snap % went up from 14% to 32%. He actually led the Bills backfield with 5 carries for 51 yards plus 1 reception for 16 yards with BUF facing a negative game script for most of the afternoon. He’s been efficient with his carries, averaging 9.76 yards per carry and I expect his roles to continue to expand as BUF look to utilze the speed and explosiveness Breida has. He’s worth the pick up in deeper leagues while we see how this backfield shakes up moving forward.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling | WR | GB (1.1% Rostership - 2% FAAB Recommendation) (@ZTwiceFF)

Out of nowhere MVS received 10 targets in the Packers loss to Minnesota. It was arguably the best the Packers offense has looked all season, and MVS was a major benefactor of that catching 4 passes for 123 yards and TD. I don't expect consistent 10 target games going forward but Green Bay needs other passing weapons outside of Davante Adams, and MVS looks to be that option.

Marquise Goodwin | WR | CHI (0.1% Rostership - 2% FAAB Recommendation) (@K_H_RAY)

In Allen Robinson's absence, Marquise Goodwin had a day. 8 targets, 4 receptions, 104 yards and a tud. It was a good showing, even with backup Andy Dalton taking over at QB. It would be wise to monitor Robinson's status prior to their Thanksgiving Day matchup vs the Lions. If he sits, Goodwin could be an interesting flier.

*Late Addition* (@MattFFDynasty)

Phillip Lindsay has just been released by the Texans. Rex Burkhead is someone you should look at on your waivers after leading HOU in carries last week with 18 and a 42% snap share. HOU goes up against a poor NYJ run defense this week making him a viable weekly streamer based on opportunity and matchup. Royce Freeman is another name to monitor in deeper leagues after being claimed by HOU off waivers a couple of weeks ago.
