Week 9 Fantasy Football Start/Sits

Another week down and another week filled with injuries that disrupt our fantasy rosters. We head into Week 9, and with that in mind, your start/sit decisions are becoming even tougher to work out! This week @FFShaneB gives you his weekly starts and @MattFFDynasty gives you the players you should at least tempering expectations on, as it will be tough to sit anyone given the situation we find ourselves in this season with the number of injuries.

Teams on their bye week:

  • L.A Rams

  • Cincinnati Bengals

  • Philidelphia Eagles

  • Cleveland Browns

Start Of The Week

Ben Roethlisberger (PIT) @ DAL

Roethlisberger has stayed healthy and has looked good all year. He’s got 3 stud receivers at least and James Conner has also stayed healthy. This means he is set up to torch the Dallas defense. They have been awful and I expect this game to be ugly. Ride the shoulders of Big Ben to victory.

Josh Allen (BUF) Vs SEA

Allen has had some rough performances lately against tougher defenses. Lucky for him he plays Seattle and their secondary has been bad. I expect a bounce-back game from Allen from a fantasy perspective as this game could turn into a shootout.

Justin Herbert (LAC) Vs LV

Herbert should be in your lineup every week. Kid has played very well since taking over and I expect that to continue this week. Las Vegas’ defense is not great against QBs in fantasy. With the way Herbert has looked, I expect him to carve them up like a Thanksgiving turkey.

Sit Of The Week

Lamar Jackson (BAL) @ IND

Okay... so if you have Jackson then it's unlikely you are going to sit him. But you should really be tempering expectations with him this week. He has been a real disappointment this season, considering how high you will have had to draft him to get him, and currently sits as the QB14. Now to make matters worse, this really isn't a bounce-back type game for Jackson! The Colts are one of the best defenses in the NFL this season both against the pass and the running game and are only allowing an average of 13.4 FPPG to opposing QBs. I never thought I would be saying this at the start of the season but Jackson would do well to break the Top10 QBs this week!

Drew Brees (NO) @ TB

Brees is having a steady yet unspectacular season so far this year. Now, he may be getting one of his top weapons back finally this week in Michael Thomas but this is going to be a tough matchup for the Saints traveling to Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers have 11 INTs already this season and are 2nd in the NFL in sacks per game. Brees is going to have to be on top form this week on MNF.

Teddy Bridgewater (CAR) @ KC

Bridgewater is coming off a disappointing game in Week 8 against the Falcons, which was a smash matchup on paper. Now his schedule takes a turn for the worst and it starts against the Cheifs. Yes, he is likely going to have to throw the ball plenty to keep up with Mahomes and Co. but the Cheif defense are no pushovers allowing just 17.6 FPPG to opposing QBs.

Running Back

Start Of The Week

James Robinson (JAX) Vs HOU

Robinson has been good all year making the Jaguars look less and less dumb for just cutting Ole Lenny. He has a juicy matchup this week against Houston and after his bounce-back game last week I expect him to continue to tear it up.

Chase Edmonds (ARI) Vs MIA

I told you in the off-season to buy Chase Edmonds. He has looked better than Drake all year, but hasn’t been getting as many touches. As Drake has struggled(and now gotten hurt), Edmonds touches have increased. He gets a Miami defense that is not good against the run this week and is starting because of Drake’s injury. Fire him up and watch him work!

Clyde Edwards-Helaire (KC) Vs CAR

Carolina’s rush defense has been bad all year long. CEH and the Chiefs get him this week and I expect the little bowling ball with arms to strike this week! Start CEH and enjoy.

Sit Of The Week

Ezekiel Elliott (DAL) Vs PIT

Zeke has had his struggles this season, yet he is still the RB4 in PPR leagues. However, his last 3 games, since QB Dak Prescott's injury, have been extremely underwhelming for his owners as he has failed to break the Top15 each week. He's now likely to get his 3rd QB in 3 weeks against the best defense in the NFL, in the Steelers. They are the top run defense and with Zeke struggling, he will do well to turn round his fortunes and finish as an RB1 this week.

Jonathan Taylor (IND) Vs BAL

We all know how frustrating Week 8 was for JT owners, 11 carries for 22 yards isn't anything like what we expected against a poor Lions run defense. News came out this week that he had a slight ankle injury so we could put his poor performance down to that but with a matchup against the Ravens up next, I'm not expecting much improvement. They are allowing just 16.6 FPPG to the position and with Hines constantly a treat to JT's receiving work, he doesn't have much of a floor either. Better days are ahead, but not this week!

Zack Moss (BUF) Vs SEA

Moss had his best game of the season last week against the Patriots, rushing 14 times for 81 yards and 2 TDs. However, the Bills play the high-powered Seahawks this week, and QB Josh Allen is going to have to throw the ball plenty to keep up which means Moss isn't likely to see as much volume as he did last week. It's made even worse by the fact that the Seahawks have actually been sneaky good against opposing RBs and are a top-half defense against the position. This really isn't a Zack Moss type game for me.

Wide Receiver

Start Of The Week

Marvin Jones Jr. (DET) @ MIN

Kenny G is out. Stafford is out. Minnesota is bad on defense. Start Marvin Jones as he has been the healthiest receiver for Detroit all year and should be a safety valve for the replacement QB.

Chase Claypool/JuJu Smith-Schuster (LV) @ DAL

I have two receivers here on purpose. Dallas’ secondary can’t stop anything. Claypool and JuJu have both looked really good in the last few weeks and with the easiest matchup they might have all year I expect BOTH to succeed. If you have one or the other or both start them.

Jerry Jeudy (SF) @ ATL

Jerry Jeudy breakout game? I think so! Lock connected with Jeudy last week finally and with Atlanta having a bad secondary also I expect Jeudy to eat this week. You should feel comfortable starting the rookie and expect big things.

Sit Of The Week

D.J Moore (CAR) @ KC

I'm not sure what D.J Moore did to Teddy Bridgewater but whatever it was Bridgewater is getting him back by not throwing him the ball! Robby Anderson is the clear top option this season in Carolina and its crushing D.J Moore, who is averaging just 4 receptions a game and only has 3 TDs this season. As mentioned before, the Cheifs are strong against the passing game so it will be tough for all Panthers pass catchers this week.

Amari Cooper (DAL) Vs PIT

Cooper made a hot start to the season, but as mentioned with Zeke, the QB struggles since Daks injury arent helping Cooper. He had just 1 reception for 5 yards last week which was highly disappointing and now faces off against the Steelers. While they are only a middle of the road defense against opposing WRs (34.2 FPPG) the fact that the Cowboys will be starting either Cooper Rush or Garrett Gilbert at QB means I don't hold out much hope for Amari Cooper this week.

D.J Chark (JAX) Vs HOU

Chark's season has been pretty up and down so far, and while this looks to be a nice matchup on paper, the fact that usual QB Gardner Minshew won't be playing and backup rookie QB 6th round pick Jake Luton will, I can't put much confidence in Chark this week.

Tight End

Start Of The Week

Jonnu Smith (TEN) Vs CHI

The Tennessee offense has been frustrating recently because it has been so balanced you don’t know who is going to have a good week. This week I think it should be Jonnu as the bears are in the bottom half of the league against tight ends. You should see his superior athleticism show and he to be the one to have a good game this week.

Evan Engram (NYG) @ WAS

Washington has an okay defense this year. They are young. But they do not do well against the tight end. Engram is a must-start this week with his matchup. Now you just gotta hope that Danny Dimes can keep the ball with the Giants offense and not turn it over.

Rob Gronkowski (TB) Vs NO

GRONK SPIKE!!! Gronk is back baby as you have seen the past few weeks. He and Tom have reconnected and look good. New Orleans is not good against the tight end so Gronk should continue his successful trend.

Sit Of The Week

Mark Andrews (BAL) @ IND

Similarly to when I mentioned Jackson earlier, you likely drafted Andrew early to get him on your roster, but with his limited volume this season (averaging just 3 receptions a game) he's becoming hard to trust, and this is going to be a tough matchup for most of the Ravens players this week. The Colts are by far the top defense against opposing TEs and allowing a measly 3.6 FPPG to the position. There aren't many options at TE so you likely aren't benching Andrews, but it's unlikely he has one of his boom games this week.

Hunter Henry (LAC) Vs LV

Henry hasn't seen much change to his targets since Justin Herbert took the starting QB role, but his yardage has taken a big drop, averaging just 30 yards a game. The Raiders are beatable through the air, and we know Herbert isn't afraid to sling the rock, however they are also beatable on the ground. So I expect the Chargers to continue to work on and improve their ground game in this one and when Herbert does throw it, I prefer both Allen and Williams over Henry this week.

Jared Cook (NO) @ TB

Cook now has 3 games on the spin with a TD and is proving a great option right now at the TE position. He's seeing plenty of snaps in the slot which is likely helping his production too. However, we know Michael Thomas is likely due back this week and I feel like Cook is going to be the main guy to lose out with his return in what is also a tough matchup against the Buccaneers, who only allow 9.2 FPPG to the position

Start Of The Week

Pittsburgh Steelers @ DAL

You all know the devastating loss the Cowboys suffered with Dak. Andy Dalton is also out this week again. The Cowboys are switching QBs again. And their offensive line has looked like a middle school team. Pittsburgh is about to eat them alive.

Arizona Cardinals Vs MIA

Washington Football Team Vs NYG

New England Patriots @ NYJ

Sit Of The Week

San Francisco 49ers Vs GB

How the mighty have fallen! The 49ers have been destroyed by injuries this season on both sides of the ball, and it's starting to really show with their defense. They have been fairly average this season and now play Aaron Rodgers and the Packers who have been a nightmare to opposing defenses. Rodgers has been in great form this season and he rarely turns the ball over (20 TDs - 2 INTs). I wouldn't have much confidence starting the 49ers against him, Adam's and Co.

Buffalo Bills Vs SEA

Chicago Bears @ TEN

Denver Broncos @ ATL
