Week 9 Waiver Stargazing

Another week, another barrage of injuries to some top fantasy players. Derrick Henry is out for 6-10 weeks with a foot injury, James Robinson left his game early with an ankle injury and didn't return, Jameis Winston suffered a season-ending ACL tear, so did Robert Tonyan, and then the sad news that Calvin Ridley has been struggling with mental health issues and has had to step away from football for the time being. So this week's waiver wire could be an important one and @ZTwiceFF & @MattFFDynasty are on hand to give you their selections while @K_H_Ray is away.

Oh, did I also mention the NFL trade deadline is today (2nd Oct)? Another possible spanner in the works with players potentially moving teams, so keep an eye on any moves that occur and could open up potential waiver targets tonight.

Waiver Target

Waiver Target of The Week

Boston Scott | RB | PHI (0.5% Rostership - 8% FAAB Recommendation) (@ZTwice FF)

With Miles Sanders on IR, Kenny Gainwell was the waiver wire target but he fell to third on the depth chart this week. Boston Scott and Jordan Howard split time for majority of the game before Gainwell got some touches late. Scott scored twice on 12 rushes and with a great matchup coming up against the Chargers, he's my priority pickup this week.

Adrian Peterson | RB | TEN (0.1% Rostership - 5% FAAB Recommendation) (@MattFFDynasty)

Following the Henry injury, the Titans quickly brought AP in for a workout before signing him. He could immediately become the lead back in this offense given his size and experience compared to the other backs on this roster, in what will likely be a committee. While he will struggle to fill the big shoes left by ‘King Henry’, Peterson had 604 yards and 7 TDs with DET last season, and the future HOF'er is worth the pick-up if he still has some juice left in those 36-year-old legs.

Carson Wentz | QB | IND (3.5% Rostership - 2% FAAB Recommendation) (@ZTwice FF)

I'll admit, Wentz had some bad interceptions on Sunday but I cannot ignore his fantasy performance this year. He's QB12 on the year, finishing with 17+ points every week but 1. He's a reliable borderline QB1 and should be picked up by any team in need of a QB due to injury or bye. Similar to Jalen Hurts, don't watch the game and enjoy his fantasy success.

Pat Freiermuth | TE | PIT (2.5% Rostership - 2% FAAB Recommendation) (@MattFFDynasty)

Freiermuth has been building on his performances each week, as you would expect from a rookie TE, and following fellow TE Eric Ebron being ruled out this week he took full advantage with 7 targets that he turned into 4 receptions for 44 yards and what was the game-winning TD. A TE that sees that level of opportunity is always worth the pick-up in fantasy given the state of the position.

Dan Arnold | TE | JAX (0.5% Rostership - 1% FAAB Recommendation) (@ZTwice FF)

In Fantasy targets are king for TE's and Dan Arnold is near the top recently. He's had 8, 5, and 10 targets since being traded to the Jags and was tied for the team lead last week. With a tough matchup coming up with the Bills, I expect Lawrence to target his safety blanket at the TE position. Arnold is a sneaky rest of season play that is worth a pickup in all formats.

Tajae Sharpe | WR | ATL (0.1% Rostership - 1% FAAB Recommendation) (@MattFFDynasty)

Following the Calvin Ridley news, Sharpe has become an interesting target in deeper leagues. He's had a total of 11 targets, 9 receptions, and 111 yards in the 2 most recent games when Ridley hasn't played and his snap share has increased. He'll likely compete with Russell Gage as the 3rd pass-catching option in this offense behind Cordarrelle Patterson and Kyle Pitts but given it's a pass-heavy offense (7th in the NFL), he's worth a dart throw.
